Kristen's Korner
Since I am trying to finish reading all of the Lone Stars before the new Lone Stars come out, and still be an adult and read some adult fiction, I will do this as a starred list with a little bit of commentary because, well, I can't help NOT sayinging anything.
The Road by Cormac McCarthy 5 STARS OMG--you really need to be in a good place in your life to read this, but it is a book worth savoring. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini FOUR AND A HALF STARS--I gave this one 4 1/2 stars because I really love the Kite Runner (his first book). To me, that was five stars, and although I cried as much in this one, it was for different reasons. I loved it, but half a star was missing. Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult THREE AND A HALF STARS I liked this book, but I compare everything she writes to My Sister's Keeper, and if it doesn't hold up to the architecture of that book, I get really upset. It is a MUST read for every parent and educator, however.
**Spanking Shakespeare** by Jake Wizner FIVE STARS I would not classify this book as adult fiction. It is definity YA, but probably only for seniors--maybe juniors--yes, people, I do have a filter. But oh, for the love of all that is holy, I laughed on every single page. It's not out yet and will not be out until September. I picked it up as a galley at TLA, so if you picked it up and just find it sitting around your house, READ IT. The funniest book I have read--EVER.
The Rules of Survival by Nancy WerlinFIVE STARS This will be my YA pick that starts off my new year at RSMS--GO BEARCATS. It an easy book to read with some hard topics to swallow. If you want to check it out, check out my book of the month web page at the new Ross Sterling library website. See you soon, ladies! :) Ross Sterling Middle School Book of the Month Chats
